Some people change their bed every week, while others can easily do so for weeks or even months (yes, really). But how often should you really change your bed?
The moment you step into a freshly made bed is the ultimate in happiness. Unfortunately it only lasts for a short while, but we would love to be able to do that every day. But to change your bed every day is a bit much.
How often should you change your bed?
While sleeping, you lose an enormous amount of bacteria, saliva, hair, skin flakes and sweat (up to 1000 liters annually). Logically, in no time at all, your bed is no longer as fresh as it was. It is therefore wise to change your bed regularly, preferably every week. This will prevent your body from reacting to all these substances and developing an allergy itself. If you think weekly is too often or if you don’t get around to it, you can stretch this to two weeks, but really no longer!
Turning the mattress and airing the duvet
Because you lose about 1000 (!) liters of moisture annually, it is very hygienic to turn your mattress regularly. It is also a good idea to air your duvet every few weeks on a clothesline or out of the window. That is not only much fresher, it also sleeps much better.
