7 Signs That Your Mattress Really Needs Replacing

Without realizing it, you sometimes sleep on the same mattress for far too long. Do you suffer from sleepless nights? Back pain? Or one of the other things below? Then you know for sure that your mattress needs replacing.

In order to function properly during the day, it is important that you sleep well. And one of the most common causes for a bad night’s sleep is a bad mattress. Yet many people sleep on a mattress that is not good for their body or is already worn out. If you recognize the signs below, then this is also the case for you.

many people sleep on a mattress that is not good for their body or is already worn out

1. How old is your mattress?

Check with yourself when you bought your mattress. Was it more than ten years ago? Then you can immediately look for a new mattress. After about seven years your mattress is already in need of replacement. And lying on the same mattress for ten years is really the max.

2. Do your arms or legs sleep a lot?

Do you regularly wake up with sleeping body parts? That’s not what you think it is. It seems quite natural that you sometimes get a sleeping arm or leg when you’re lying in bed. But that’s not always the case. This may indicate that your mattress has had its best time. Dormant body parts indicate that the suspension in your mattress is no longer good. And so you have to look for a new one.

3. Is the mattress dented?

If your mattress has dents or even one big hole in the middle, we have news for you: it’s not good for your body anymore. This simply means that you’ve slept too much on it and the mattress has lost its shape. It can’t support your body optimally anymore, so your mattress needs to be replaced.

4. What happens when you push it?

To test if your mattress still has enough suspension, you can push it with your hand. Doesn’t your mattress spring back? Then the suspension is out and it is better to buy a new one.

5. Is your mattress dirty?

If your mattress has yellow spots or smells bad, you’d better go to a bed store. Over the years a lot of dirty substances, bacteria and body fluids accumulate in a mattress, which is not really conducive to a relaxing night’s sleep.

6. Do you have sleepless nights?

If you are constantly awake because of your swaying partner, then your mattress needs to be replaced as well. A good mattress should provide enough stability to keep you asleep while your partner turns around.

7. Do you have back pain?

Back pain is of course also a good indicator of how good your mattress is. Your pillow and mattress are very important for your posture at night. And if it is not good, you feel it the next morning. Time to look for a new mattress!
